Riga International Film Forum “Arsenals”

The 16th IFF “Arsenals” (2000)

BALTIC FILM COMPETITION

IFF Arsenals is the only film event in the world where the latest films from all three Baltic states - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – can be seen. 18 films were at the Baltic Film Competition, including five full-length features. Along with the Baltic Film Competition, the Baltic Informative Film Show is held. The retrospective show of Juris Podnieks’ films started a tradition to demonstrate a retrospective show of one Baltic director each time.
The Baltic film show is aimed at informing the public and film professionals on Baltic film developments, and to promote the screening of the Baltic region’s films worldwide.

The prize fund of the Baltic Film Competition is USD 9,000. The jury consists of experts from the international media concern VIASAT and the jury from FIPRESCI. The films are evaluated in four categories – best feature-length film, best documentary, best short film, best cartoon. The best films are given the chance to be shown on TV3 channels in the Scandinavian and Baltic states.
