Born on May 1, 1958. Started to study at the Riga Technical University but left that and went to Moscow to study as a cameraman at the celebrated Soviet film school VGIK.

Has been working as an assistant cameraman and later a cameraman at the Riga Documentary Film Studio. Has been working on a lot of newsreels. Among others worked on V. Goldbergs‘ film "The Orange Angel".
Gvido was one of Juris Podnieks´ crew. Worked on the series for British Television "Hello, Do You Hear Us?" as well as "Homeland" both directed by J. Podnieks. While filming the follow-up to "Homeland", Podnieks and his crew came under sniper fire during a Soviet coup in Riga in January 21, 1991. During this disturbance Andris Slapins was killed instantly. Gvido was fataly wounded and died at the hospital on February 5, 1991.
