Karl is just an ordinary citizen who has been a voter in the Soviet-time elections as well as a government official who has seen many changes. Now he sees the greatest Latvian Parliament. Portrayed in the film and shown above is Alfreds Rubiks, the former leader of the Latvian Communist Party, who has served most of his elected term in jail.
