The village of Pasiena with the collapsing architectural monument, the Pasiena Church, is situated in the most remote eastern corner of Latvia where the small river of Zilupe separates Latvia from Russia and Belarus. The church tower is the first in Latvia to greet the morning sunrise.
The wars of the XX century have both separated and united the nations living on both banks. The father is on one side, the daughter - on the other. The river as the border between the two countries has turned into a family problem. At the same time many people in the county feel forgotten by the Latvian state because they live in a remote corner of the country.
