What can one say about the first child? It will always be dear as the first child. "The Salt Bread" was my first independent work as a director. Before I invited the cameraman Visvaldis Frijars to go into the sea together with the fishmen, I myself took more than 200 photos with my Leica. Among those I found both the image of the film, its heroes, as well as the title - the salt bread. Here are some of the photos. Isn't that a real wonder? At the beginning I had nothing else in my hands than a small camera. And a small camera was also a tool to help me make my latest film - "Flashback"
