The film based on an autobiographical novel "The White Book" by the Latvian classic Janis Jaunsudrabins, gives panorama of life in Latvia's country-side at the end of the 19th century. It reveals also the painful sides in the life of farm labourers' families, who every year at Jurgi (St. Georges) Day moved to another farmer. People's mutual relations and their relations with the nature are viewed through the main character's - little Jancis' eyes. The plot consists of the Boy's life from winter through spring, summer and autumn till new winter and spring, when a period in Jancis' life comes to an end in Jurgi Day - he has to leave home he used to call "Our-home". In this very sensitive work the authors are talking about the life and death, the joys and sorrows, about how these eternal human categories form the little boy's character and consciousness.
