In the centre of this dramatic story (script by Egons Livs and Gunars Cilinskis) is a love triangle, or, in fact quadrangle. A simple fisherman Janis is left by his wife Ilze. She has fallen in love with another man. Tobiass is different. He is a man with an artistic soul. Village people condemn Ilze and feel sorry for her nice ex-husband. Heart-broken Janis when visiting his brother in the town, meets Dzintra, a nice girl, trolley-buss driver, who helps him to overcome his personal crisis. They fall in love and are going to marry. But when Tobiass dies in an accident, Janis returns to his first wife Ilze, to support her.
