It is high time for a young farmer Janis to get married. He does not want to marry a rich father's daughter whom his parents have chosen for him, but he is going to marry for love and find his future wife himself. She has to be pretty, diligent and kindhearted. At the spring fair he meets a lot of nice young ladies. But how to know, what is really on their mind? And Janis decides to pretend to be deaf. So he manages to find out their true intentions and see real faces. And only one girl, a blacksmith's sister Ilze, is really kind and nice and sincere and truly cares about him.
